Development, Rather than Ridership, a Measure of Success for Oklahoma City Streetcar

Mallory Carter watched with a smile as her son clung to a floor-to-ceiling pole aboard the Oklahoma City streetcar. Riding the electric streetcars — boasting bright colors of red, blue and green — around downtown has been one of her children’s favorite activities this summer.

But Carter said it’s not completely about finding a fun way around. She has epilepsy, and each seizure keeps her from driving for six months. Right now, it will be at least December before she can get behind the wheel again.

“In the past eight years, probably about half the time I haven’t been able to drive,” she said.
